My Little Pony Party Ideas: Decorations, Costumes, and Activities
Begin your planning by identifying who your child’s favorite pony is and use that character as your central theme “director.” This approach enables you to choose your color palette quickly.
Before you hit the DIY table running decide how involved you want the party to get. We can get easily carried away and then, overwhelmed! Let’s be true to ourselves, Moms and Dads. If there is cake, colorful trappings of some kind, and party favors, the kids are good. Below are some simple, but classic and fun ideas for your My Little Pony party.
Garlands: Felt cut into circles, hearts, diamonds, or any shape 2” in diameter in the corresponding color(s) of the chosen pony. You can customize this decoration to the desired length depending on where you plan to hang it. Garlands look great anywhere: around the front door to welcome guests, around the party food & cake table, around your child’s room or bedroom door on their special day, and anywhere else you can think of.
Costume & Dress-up Ideas:
Hair: Buy temporary hair dye spray cans in various colors. You can use this to both styles your child’s hair before the party, or as a dress-up activity for your guests. Also, at most superstores, a package of 5 various colored headbands can be purchased and then decorated with colorful ribbons. Again, this can be done before the party or the girls can decorate themselves at the party.
Dress-Up: Measure your child’s waist and cut elastic banding you can get at any craft store to fit. Cut enough 2” wide ribbon strips of various colors to go around the entire circumference of the band. Cut them to your desired length. Attach the ribbon strips to the elastic band with either a simple stitch or fusible web. To finish the outfit, you can find My Little Pony iron-on transfers online to make a party shirt for the birthday girl, or each guest. Plain colored t-shirts can be found relatively inexpensively at craft stores or online. You can also re-use this costume for your next Halloween party and save some money.
Pin the Tail on the Pony: Take an image of a pony to use as your model and on 16X20 cardstock enlarge the drawing to fit the page. Color in the pony and make tails out of ribbons or streamers. You can also find these pre-made kits at online retailers.
Easy Outdoor Activities: Decorate hula hoops with ribbons of various colors for each guest. Buy bubble wands and attach streamers to each handle and/or decorate with sparkly stickers in corresponding colors.
Coloring: Find online coloring pages of My Little Pony. Print several copies and have available at a coloring station. Purchase a new box of crayons for each guest. They can use at the party and then take home for party favors. Decorate each box with the child’s name and stickers.
You can also have your kids play online games or even better, download mobile games to their tablet or smart phone.
